Este medallón de gran tamaño, 5 × 5 cm, está realizado en plata 950 y destaca por su magnífico marco de filigrana calada, trabajado con delicados arabescos que le otorgan el carácter de una joya antigua. En la cruz aparecen las letras C S S M L, correspondientes a Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux: “Que la Santa Cruz sea mi luz”; y N D S M D, de Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux: “Que el demonio no sea mi guía”.
Alrededor se encuentra la fórmula tradicional V R S N S M V – S M Q L I V B, abreviatura de una oración que expresa el rechazo del mal y de la tentación. En la parte superior aparece PAX, “Paz”, palabra especialmente vinculada a la tradición benedictina.
Por este motivo, la Medalla de San Benito se utiliza tradicionalmente como sacramental y signo visible de confianza en Dios y de petición de protección frente al mal. Su sentido cristiano no es el de un amuleto: la medalla remite a la fe en Cristo, a la Cruz y a la oración.

At its center, the sacred miniatures are entirely hand-painted on mother-of-pearl, whose natural iridescence enhances the colors and delicate touches of gold.
